February 18 - Fractured Fairy Tale

Bartok's Duke Bluebeard's Castle at a

Met screening in Pleasant Hill,

or shall we say Boss Blackscruffy's

Warehouse,

an even darker retelling of the Charles Perrault Histoires ou contes du temps passé: La Barbe bleue (1697)

than Bartok librettist Bela Belazs managed,

with the

titular character ending up as a

mass-murdering necrophiliac behind the Monty Hall Let's Make a Dealesque Door No. 7 (to say nothing of poor punky-sensuous Judith - dead, rather than merely imprisoned).  Powerful staging, reframing the sounds as a beautiful, seductive slasher score, with anyone fleeing the theatre likely to be objecting to the visuals rahter than the by-now-mainstream-modernist music...

A once-upon-a-time

progress to

DVC Music Theory at the front end, greeting the Theoreticians with an amazingly prescient Henry Purcell Dido and Aeneas: When I Am Laid in Earth as Dictation / Board Harmony,

staying in the

local area before

heading out to the opera.  High 66 at home (8 Days 70's, 29 Days 60's / 12 Days 50's since January 1), 67 in Pleasant Hill -- somewhere in there finishing up Portraits of ___ (Some Multiple of 3) Women: X. Collette (13 pages total).
